Summary: The main objective of this position is to lead and manage the maintenance function in the facility. This position also works to ensure that key metrics in the area of Safety, Quality, Productivity, Cost and Customer Delight are achieved.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Provide overall leadership and direction to the Maintenance Team in order to meet or exceed key metrics as defined by the business. It should be recognized that performance of the Maintenance Manager will be evaluated relative to these metrics.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction to the Maintenance Team in order to effectively accomplish production requirements in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Develop a culture of Excellence in Quality and Customer Delight in the Maintenance Team by being the role model for “QUALITY” and championing the implementation of an effective Preventive and Predictive Maintenance program.
  • Develop and implement Maintenance systems and processes that enable operating teams to effectively and efficiently carry out their work
  • Establish clear expectations and accountabilities and ensure they are carried out on an ongoing basis
  • Facilitate participation and involvement of all team members and create an environment of teamwork and mutual trust
  • Develop capability of maintenance team members in order to better problem solve, make sound judgments and work together as a team
  • Put in place goals, standards and objectives that drive improved equipment reliability and safety
  • Provide leadership and eliminate barriers that get in the way of team members effectively carrying out their work and achieving their goals
  • Provide necessary information so that team members understand customer needs and how well they are delivering against those needs
Key Interactions:
 
  • Works closely with VP-Manufacturing, Plant Manager, Converting Operations Manager and other team members in developing and carrying out an overall long term plan that drives manufacturing excellence
  • Works closely with the Converting Operations Manager to ensure the day-to-day operation is meeting or exceeding key metrics.
  • Leads the maintenance personnel on a day-to-day basis to understand issues and problems and provide the support and direction required for effective resolution.
  • Interacts with the Management Team to understand the state of the business and its needs and provide information or feedback on the performance of the operation.
 
Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Detailed knowledge of mechanical and electronic systems in a paper converting process environment.  Ideal candidates will be those persons whom worked as a maintenance manager in a high speed, tissue converting plant, working with Tissue, Towel, and Napkin machines. 
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve (identify problem, define root cause, develop alternative solutions and select and implement most effective solution).
  • Capability to work with teams and develop improvement plans (standards, goals, objectives) in a way that gains team commitment towards achievement.
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills with the capability to confront and deal with issues in a positive but complete manner.
  • Recognizes and values skills and knowledge possessed by mechanics and operators.
  • Proficient in computer spreadsheets, word processing and internet software.
  • Flexibility in work assignments.
  • Ability to seek out, listen and value inputs from all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to exercise professionalism, courtesy and tact in dealing with all members of the organization and external resources.
