A leading passive electronic component manufacturer has a new opportunity as Manager,
Data Communications/Security.
The Manager researches, tests, evaluates, and recommends data communication
hardware and software for all company locations worldwide. Monitors system performance
and cost. Determines communication efficiency, reliability and compatibility with existing
and future communication solutions. Provides global support to all company locations
related to data communications requirements. Manages the activities of workers, both
internal and external, engaged in the installation and support of data communication and
security. Plans and coordinates security measures to safeguard information in computer
files against unauthorized access/destruction. Evaluates and recommends local area
network (LAN) end wide area network (WAN') hardware and software.
REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education & Training
BS in Computer Science or Communications. ICCP Certifications desired: DCP, CSP, CP
Background & Experience:
Seven plus years experience in designing, selecting, and implementing telecommunication
systems.
3 Special Qualifications & Requirements:
a. Ability to evaluate and research data communication network hardware and software.
b. Must be able to diagnose problems related to the transmission and reception of data
communications.
Ability to coordinate and manage local and international data communications projects.
d. Position requires 10% travel.
e. On call 7 x 24
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide management and leadership to manage, develop communications, security staff
at all company locations.
Approves the purchase of communications hardware and software.
Distributes work assignments and monitors daily logs of NETWORK CONTROL OPERATORS
Explains data communications diagnostic and monitoring procedures to network operators,
using computer terminal and following vendor's equipment and software instructions .
Develop, maintain communications strategies, plans to support changing business
objectives.
Explains and demonstrates installation of data communication lines and equipment to
network operators.
Enters diagnostic commands into computer and determines nature of problem to assist
operators to resolve data communication problems.
Conducts surveys to determine user needs and preferences based priorities.
Reads technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment which meets
establishment requirements.
Visit vendors to learn about available products or services.
Tests and evaluates hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and
compatibility with existing system, using equipment such as computer terminal and
modems.
Analyzes test data and recommends hardware or software for purchase.
Develops and writes procedures for installation, use and solving problems of
communications hardware and software.
Monitors Network system performance.
Coordinates training of users in use of equipment.
Assists users to identify and solve data communication problems.
May write (or oversee preparation of) technical specifications to send to vendors for bid.
Will oversee or assist in installation of communications hardware and data security
systems.
Examine and evaluate security software packages for access to corporate computing
system.
Monitor use of security software system for proper use and security violations.
Define, coordinate, and monitor sectional goals and objectives to be attained by assigned
personnel.
Responsible to manage the achievement of published project work plans for schedule,
estimates, and budget.
Monitor budgets and actual spending for all data communications spending; recommended
improvements to reduce costs, in~e service quality.
Develops security systems for any manual or automated systems.
Analyzes internal or external customer needs and determines equipment and software
requirements .
Establishes system parameters and formats and coordinates and manages LAN/WAN
operational procedures.
