A Day in the Life of an FPC Owner

An FPC franchise owner’s day can be broken into the following categories:

1. Management of staff -  coaching, mentoring to gain maximum production
2. Personal production of placements – responsibility to clients and candidates
3. Administrative Tasks – bills, invoices, database management, strategic planning, etc.

The day often begins with a meeting with the recruiters to review their activity; coaching and mentoring them to ensure they have to tools and motivation to succeed in their daily goals.

After the meeting, the owner will join the other recruiters in a call block of typically 1 ½ uninterrupted hours. During this time, everyone in the office will spend time calling clients, potential clients, and candidates. After the call block, the owner will spend time returning calls and conducting necessary business that came up during the uninterrupted calling time. This time is also used to check in with the recruiters and coach them on how to handle situations that arose during their call blocks.  The owner encourages the recruiters to call the FPC National training staff in New York for additional mentoring  and guidance.

This cycle of call block and follow up time will usually be repeated three times throughout the day with time at the end of the day set aside for administrative tasks and preparing for the next day.

The administrative tasks include business fundamentals such as paying bills, preparing invoices, and entering activity numbers and resumes into the database.  Other items like short and long-term strategic planning for the office are very important, and include things like planning and implementing hiring and training of new employees and evaluating the effectiveness and potential of current staff.  While strategic planning doesn’t occur every day, successful owners make sure they set aside time so it doesn’t get pushed aside because these activities are vital to the success of an owner’s business.

Preparing for the next day is one of the fundamentals for success in the recruiting business.  At the end of the day, all recruiters, including the owner, prepare a list of calls and goals for the next day.  They conduct any research necessary to create that list, so when they come to the office the next day, there is no wasted time.  The calls are usually broken in the following categories:

  • client follow up calls regarding a candidate currently in the interviewing process
  • candidate calls to brief or debrief on an interview
  • warm client calls to gain new business from referrals
  • marketing calls to introduce your services to a potential new client by presenting a strong candidate
  • recruiting calls to identify the passive candidate for a specific job
  • matching calls to contact potential candidates with whom you are already in communication regarding a position on your job
  • presentation calls to present candidates to clients

One of the challenges owners face on a daily basis is managing their time between the demands of running a business, coaching and mentoring staff and keeping their own production strong.  One of the best things about being an FPC owner is that it’s completely up to you how to address those challenges and manage your day.  FPC National’s training and support staff can help you set up systems and procedures to most efficiently run the office, but ultimately, you are the owner and have the freedom to determine your office’s policies and procedures.

Being the owner of a business can have great rewards, both personally, professionally and financially.  Being an owner of an FPC franchise gives you that freedom and reward, while removing a great deal of risk from the equation.  FPC has been franchising since 1973 and has a documented track record of success with new franchise owners.

The fact is: our success is defined by your success.
