Job Description: Responsible for leading the Chemistry department in sustaining existing products as well as developing new wet chemical or electromechanical methods for product analysis. Works with members of the R&D leadership team to develop strategic plans that define the direction of new product development activity and the future research directions of the Company toward the development of new and innovative products.
· Maintain existing products through allocating the Chemistry group’s time appropriately when needed to meet customer expectations. Coordinate these efforts with the appropriate departments.
· Coordinates Chemistry best practices, Chemistry IP generation, product definitions, resource assignment, and development activities with other divisions.
· Seen as a subject matter expert and is frequently a source for the executive team in strategic planning, acquisitions, and technology evaluation.
· Responsible for maintaining the strategic goal hierarchy, strategic goal sequencing and strategic goal congruency in the Chemistry group.
· Provide the leadership for many critical projects to develop IP, products, processes, or applications that are critical in supporting the strategic goals of the business.
· Reduces the risk in many high-risk projects and frequently acts as a consultant on high-risk projects.
· Develop and foster contacts with external partners, technical experts, Universities, Research centers, and regulatory agencies.
· Responsible for the general administrative, supervisory, recruiting, and development needs for personnel reporting to this position.
· Maintain and improve Quality System requirements. Adhere to quality system requirements and the company Development System in the development of new products.
· Responsible and accountable for meeting product and project cost goals, quality objectives, and time-to-market objectives. Leads Root Cause Counter Measures when appropriate.
· Regularly involved in planning activities for key projects and manufacturing processes.
· Assists in the timely release of analytical systems, which generate continuing revenues for the corporation, while providing customers with accurate analytical results.
· Actively participate in design reviews and tollgate reviews for NPD and maintenance projects where necessary.
· Support Open Innovation and Global Product Development activities.
· Maintenance and control of the department budget.
· Provide leadership, career growth and training opportunities for subordinates.
 
Requirements:
  • BS, MS or PhD in Chemistry required.
  • MS, MA, or MBA in business or technology management preferred.
  • Four or more years in a product research, development, engineering, or manufacturing environment, with at least two years of close involvement with chemistry product research and development or chemistry project management.
  • Working knowledge of phase-gate new product development processes.
  • Ability to utilize commonly accepted project management tools to assist in the development of, and adherence to a project schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability in analytical thinking.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and use of personal computers, and common business productivity tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases, project scheduling tools, etc.
