Established and long-term client is seeking experienced Structural Engineer III to research, develop, design and test steel structural components and systems used in large off-road mobile or construction type equipment.  I have worked with this client since 1997 and have placed over 12 engineers of whom most are still currently employed there.  This is opportunity knocking!
 
Job Duties:
  • Research, designs, perform Finite Element (FE) analysis, and specify tests of welded steel structures, castings and processes.  My client will be looking for candidates who have solid experience in detailed design of welded structures including understanding of weld specifications & tests within the heavy construction, agriculture or large off-road mobile equipment.
  • Develops FE models and performs calculations to analyze and determine structural integrity, system loads and fatigue life
  • Investigate and resolve equipment failures and recommend design changes as necessary using field reports, test data, and FE analysis.
  • Develop fabrication and repair procedures including testing requirements to ensure structural members or components meet specifications.  Determine if weld specifications meet current consumer criteria.
  • Key interface with vendors on all structural material specifications, size and type.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and other data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements.
  • Can work independently and also as a team member with other engineers, production personel or supply chain group.
 
Requirements:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and minimum 4+ years structural welded design or Associate Science in Mechanical Engineering (ASME) with minimum 6+ years in structural welded design.   Structural welded design experience must be from construction equipment or large off-road mobile equipment background which includes large agricultural equipment, aerial work platforms, forklifts, or mining equipment.  Experience investigating field failures and recommending design changes.
  • Working knowledge of Finite Element (FE) Analysis of both structural steel and welds.
  • 3D CAD - prefer Pro-E, Pro-Mechanica.  M/S Office Suite
  • Project management experience - ability to plan, manage and direct resources including coordinating work for Design Drafters
  • Ability to work with both external and internal customers to resolve issues and respond to inquiries
  • Good background with mathematical concepts such as solid & plan geometry, trigonometry, algebra, probability and statistic,  fractions and percentages and apply them to practical situations.
  • Work well within a team based environment but ability to also work independently.
