BETTER ENVIRONMENTS, GREATER CHALLENGES
FPC, a national executive search firm, recently completed its Workplace Web Poll and found employees in manufacturing-related industries are no longer afraid of the recession and are leaving their jobs for better working environments and greater challenges. The poll asked job candidates to report on their job change activity and future expectations.

The latest poll, conducted from December 2004 to late February 2005, indicates that employees are starting to act on the itch they've felt over the last few years. Without the fear of being the last one hired and the first one fired when a company faces downsizing, employees are exploring their options.

Of 613 respondents to the question, "What is your primary reason for changing jobs?":

19 percent want a better working environment
30 percent want a greater challenge
only 7 percent are seeking a new job for more money

The remaining candidates either want a career change or were downsized.

Notwithstanding the low rank of more money on the list of reasons for leaving, job seekers still expect a significant increase in compensation in their next position:

34 percent expect an increase greater than 10 percent
26 percent expect an increase between 5 to 10 percent
